We are delighted to announce the return of the Signals Game Academy. The course begins on Monday 31st July 2023 and applications are open now.
Signals Game Academy aims to help train and inspire the next generation of British game makers, supporting talented and committed young people aged 15 – 18, to develop the knowledge and skills to make a career in the creative digital industry a reality.
The Signals Game Academy is a week of workshops and masterclasses covering all areas of game development, including: artwork, sound design, game design plus inspiring talks from industry professionals. Over the course of a week you’ll form small teams to work collaboratively and make your own video game, ending the week with a showcase event for friends and families where you’ll play each others games.
The Signals Game Academy course costs £95, with free places are available upon request.

Where and When?
The Game Academy lasts for five days, Monday 31st July – 4th August 10am – 3pm and will take place at Signals, St Runwald Street, Colchester, CO1 1HF.
Who can apply?
Making video games combines a variety of skills, from concept art to sound design, programming to scriptwriting. Whilst you won’t have big budgets and huge time scales to play with on this course, we encourage everyone to apply and state your preferred skill in your application. We’ll also be looking for proof of commitment to your craft, such as examples of games, artwork or music you’ve already made.
In order to apply for the Signals Game Academy you must:
- Be aged 15–18 years old on the first day of the course.
- Have a passion or talent for video game making and an ambition to work in the game industry.
- Be able to commit to the duration of the course.
