Signals Film School 2024


We are delighted to announce Signals Film School. The course begins on Monday the 8th of April and applications are open now.

Signals Film School aims to support young people aged 15– 19 interested in film to develop the knowledge and skills to make a career in the film and creative digital industry a reality.

Signals Film School is a week of workshops, masterclasses and talks from industry professionals, get hands on with different areas of practical filmmaking, including camera, lighting, sound, and editing.

Work in a team to make a short film.

Signals Film School course costs £95, with free places available upon request.

Where and When?

Signals Film School lasts five days, from the 8th to the 12th of April and will take place at Signals, St Runwald Street, Colchester, CO1 1HF,

Who can apply?

Filmmaking combines various skills, from set design to scriptwriting. Whilst you won’t have big budgets and huge time scales to play with on this course, we encourage everyone to apply and state your preferred skill in your application. We’ll also be looking for proof of commitment to your craft, such as examples of films, videos or scripts you’ve already made.

To apply for the Signals Film School you must:

  • Be aged 15–19 years old on the first day of the course.
  • Have a passion or talent for filmmaking and an ambition to work in the film industry.
  • Be able to commit to the duration of the course.
