Looking back on the Summer
What an incredible summer it’s been at Signals! We’ve been buzzing with activity across Essex, running workshops that have inspired digital creativity for young people. From filmmaking to robotics, our students have been busy developing skills that will serve them well into the new school year and beyond.
Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from our packed summer programme…
3 Day Film School
This year, we transformed the Harwich Electric Palace into a film studio for three intensive days of moviemaking. Twelve enthusiastic young filmmakers joined us to dive into the art of cinema, covering the fundamentals of scriptwriting and technical aspects of camera work and lighting.
The programme was hands-on from day one. Our students put their knowledge into practice, working collaboratively to create their own short films. Watching their ideas come to life on screen was truly inspiring, and the final screening showcased some genuinely impressive work.

3 Day Code School
Our second intensive workshop focused on the exciting world of coding and robotics. Over three days, students explored game development, learned programming fundamentals, and got hands-on with our brand new “TP bots.”
The highlight was definitely our robot obstacle course challenge. Students had to code their TP bots to navigate a series of increasingly complex obstacles, combining problem-solving skills with creative programming. There was a great sense of achievement when their robots successfully completed the course.
Our workshops in Harwich are supported by the National lottery Community Fund.
Throughout the summer, our Signals studio remained a hub of creativity with our regular holiday workshops. We offered sessions in filmmaking, animation, game development, and robotics. Signals autism-friendly workshops provided a more supportive environment for all participants to explore their creative potential. It’s been great to see the children and young people develop digital skills through in filmmaking, coding, animation, or robotics, these are more than just technical abilities. They’re tools for creative expression, problem-solving, and future career opportunities in our increasingly digital world.
