Free, holiday workshops for children and young people with Asperger’s and high functioning Autism aged 9 to 18 years.

From tech to games to film, we’ve got a wide range of Autism friendly workshops lined up over 2022! Thanks to Children in Need, these workshops are all free – simply book your place through Eventbrite using the links below.

Signals Autism Friendly Workshops are for those who may like a bit more support. Workshops are shorter, have smaller groups (6 to 10 participants), and are led by two experienced tutors. There is also a choice of live or online activities.

Taster Session – Tech, Games, Animation and Film

Tuesday 5th April
10am – 12pm
Ages 9 – 18
Free

Come along to our accessible, autism-friendly taster session and get an idea of what Signals is all about. We’ll explore games, film, tech and animation in a relaxed atmosphere with expert help in small groups.

Video Game Making

Wednesday 13th April

Free

In a relaxed atmosphere, our expert game tutors will help you to learn about and create your very own video game, using Scratch – the entry level game design software. Make simple 2D arcade games and share them online (via the scratch website) or pop your them onto your own USB to take home!

Video Game Making Online

Stop Motion Animation Online

Monday 30th May

Ages 9 – 18
Free

Create your own animated short film using a range of art materials and animation software. Experiment with Lego, Claymation or paper cut-outs – whatever you’re interested in! Bring a story to life, cut out your characters and animate. All materials are provided by Signals.

Tech Camp

Monday 8th August – Wednesday 10th August
10am – 12pm

Free

With expert guidance and working in small groups, you’ll design, program and build your own robots, video games and interactive artwork. Across the three days you’ll get creative with technology, solving challenges we’ll set you along the way and coming up with creative solutions. No prior programming knowledge required, just an interest in technology, robots and video games!

Film Camp

Thursday 18th August – Friday 19th August

Free

Learn about the behind-the-scenes magic of film making and create your own miniature movie in a relaxed, autism friendly setting! Learn the process of making a film, including; scriptwriting, storyboarding, set design, cinematography and special effects. You’ll get hands on with professional filmmaking equipment including cameras, lighting and audio gear. With expert help working in small groups, we will guide you through film making techniques used in the industry.

Spooky Video Game Making

Tuesday 25th October

Free

Create your own spooky video game in our online autism friendly workshop! Using Scratch, the fun entry-level game design software used in schools throughout the country, you will learn how to create exciting playable 2D arcade games with a spooky twist. Experiment with eerie sets and creepy characters to make a spine-tingling Halloween game, all with support from our video game experts.

Christmas Animation

Thursday 22nd December

Feeling inspired by festive favourite animations? Come along and create your own at Signals in a relaxed, autism friendly setting! Build a miniature set and mould creative characters out of clay, then bring your story to life using stop motion animation techniques. If you can imagine it, our experts can help you animate it – why not design your own Shaun the Sheep episode, or plan the next Chicken Run movie?
